"Snacking" and "unhealthy eating" may seem to be synonymous, but they don't have to be. If you snack on healthy foods, you'll increase your energy, improve cognitive functions and, among others, even lose weight.

Here are 10 healthy snack choices that you should consider:

1. Nuts

Will keep you feeling full because of high protein and fiber content.

2. Popcorn

As long as it's not saturated in butter and salt, popcorn is great way to snack because its rich in fiber. Using air popper is the best in terms of healthy.

3. Soy Crisps

These are low in fat, high in fiber, and a good source of healthy soy protein.

4. Peanut Butter

On crackers or fruits (sliced apples with peanut butter, yum!) or just by itself. High on protein.

5. Fruit Smoothies

Nothing beats fruit smoothies during summer. Banana base with strawberries are my favorite. Will likely require a small appliance like a blender or Nutribullet.

6. Gum

Yes, gum. If you're hungry right now and it's in between meals, chewing gum helps curb the desire for food.

7. Cinnamon Apple Chips

These snacks will require some prep on your part, mostly slicing the apple, coating it with cinnamon-sugar mix and baking in a 200 deg F pre-heated oven for 2-3 hours. But they taste good, so worth it.

8. Healthy Trail Mix

Store-bought from Whole Foods or organic section of your local supermarket.

9. Green Apple Peanut Butter Wedges

Arrange apple wedges on a serving plate. Using a spoon, drizzle generously with warmed peanut butter. Top with granola bits and dried cranberries. Serve immediately.

10. Fruits Dipped in Chocolate

This snack can be as complicated as making fondue and dipping fruits, such as strawberries. Or it can be as easy as melting a bowl of chocolate chips in a microwave, then dipping fruits.
