A really simple way to prepare for guests at a dinner party is through use of a slow cooker. In this post, I'm making an easy bbq root beer pulled pork. I followed the video below for recipes and instructions. But added one more thing, a whole 18 oz bottle of bbq sauce after shredding the pork and slow cooking for another 30 minutes.
After that, serve it on a bun with the usual coleslaw (pic below) or, even better, salsa (pic above).
Crock Pot Root Beer Pulled Pork
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
- 3-4 lbs pork butt, pork shoulder or pork picnic
- 12 oz root beer
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp paprika
- 1 tbsp ground pepper
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 18 oz bbq sauce (added from original recipe)
Directions: How to make pulled pork in slow cooker with root beer
Step 1) Shred the pork. Be sure to save enough of the cooking liquid to fill at least up to 1/2 inch of the crockpot. After shredding, put the pork back inside the crockpot with the liquid. The video below shows the prep and shredding of the pork.Step 2) Squeeze the entire bottle of bbq sauce on top of the shredded pork. Stir well and slow cook at high for another 30 minutes. More if needed, but only up to an extra hour.
Step 3) Stir every 15 minutes to make sure it doesn't dry out.
Step 4) Ready to serve. Keep in mind that the slow cooking is an 8 hour process. Plus an extra 30 minutes to an hour to slow cook with the bbq sauce.
