Easy and Healthy Baked Chicken Breast Recipe

I always thought that healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated or boring.  That's why I favor preparing meals requiring relatively little preparation.  One of these meals is baked chicken breast.

Just like tuna steak, chicken is a healthy alternative to beef and pork.  It has less fat and calories so it's good for those trying to lose weight or maintaining diet.  Chicken also has vitamin B6 to keep the heart healthy. Additionally, chicken is rich in niacin, a vitamin that helps fight cancer. source

To me, chicken breast just tastes good (and considered as weight loss snacks). And can be prepared as simple or as snazzy as my time allows.

Below is a recipe I use for a simple and low-fat baked chicken breast that I often eat with a salad for a light meal.  The prep time can be as quick as 10-15 min.  The cooking time, however, is up to 1.5 hours because you're baking the chicken.

Ingredients:
  • 3 lbs. package of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 12oz. bottle of fat free salad dressing or Lawry's marinade

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place frozen chicken breasts in a baking pan (e.g. Rachel Ray Non-Stick Baking Pans). Pour dressing or marinade over frozen chicken. Bake chicken at 400 degrees for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours or until chicken is lightly browned on top.

Of course, there are leftovers so I eat those over the next few days.

Aside from the taste, I like chicken breast because it's the leanest part of the chicken.  Those who are dieting through protein weight loss plans ought to appreciate the protein content of chicken breasts.  According to Livestrong.com:
You should consume between 50 to 175 g of protein a day, according to The Mayo Clinic. Because the breast of the chicken is the leanest part, it contains a significant amount of protein. A 3 oz. baked chicken breast contains approximately 25 g of protein.
